Hollie had been performing at her local theatre school, Basics Junior Theatre, since she was 5 years old up until she was 12 when she moved to London for training. Hollie’s first solo performance ever was the song “Do Re Mi” from the sound of music at the age of 5. She showed a great understanding of music with her big brother Josh to lead her. In December 2008, Hollie played Annie at the Burnley Mechanics Theatre with her big brother playing Daddy Warbucks. Hollie first came to the attention of the UK, and indeed the world, when she auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in April 2009. After she appealed for a second chance and was denied by the producers, Cowell intervened saying, 'I don't care how we find it but we will find the time somewhere', and she was allowed to perform a second time after street dancer and fellow finalist. Her second attempt at ' went well and she was praised by the judges for being accomplished and brave in the trying circumstances. Piers Morgan described it as 'one of the gutsiest things I've ever seen in my life', and Steel was chosen by all three judges to progress to the final in preference to.

In December of 2010 Hollie’s most wonderful experience was when she performed in the Carnegie Hall in NewYork. Hollie has also performed at many charity events. In 2011 Hollie was cast into the UK cast of ‘The Sound of Music’ at the age of 12. She toured round the UK for 6 months with the company playing the part of Louisa. Hollie loved the experience and gained lots of insights to the musical world. Throughout 2011-2012 Hollie was filming for a TV programme called ‘Children on the Titanic’ the contract included her recording a whole new album for it.

Over thirteen million viewers watched Steel's performance and, within one day of a video of her performance being posted on YouTube, over a million viewers had seen her worldwide.

Well done!” From 12th June until 5th July 2009, Hollie appeared in Britain’s Got Talent – The Live Tour 2009 along with the other finalists from the show, becoming firm friends with Sallie Lax of 2Grand along the way.
